Two items that were previously tabled during regular meetings of the Crowley City Council have been added to the agenda for the special meeting to be held at 11 a.m. today.
The agenda for today’s meeting was announced just before 11 a.m. Monday, meeting the state mandate for publication 24 hours prior to the meeting time.
At the special meeting, the council will consider:
• the lease of new units for the Crowley Police Department; and
• reducing the retiree eligibility requirements of insurance from 120 months (10 years) to 24 months (two years) immediately preceding retirement for retirees to qualify for extended payment of benefits by the city.
The council also will hold a public hearing on an ordinance to amend the 2017-18 budget and to adopt said amendment, the two items for which the special meeting originally was called.
Police Chief Jimmy Broussard had approached the council at the beginning of the month for three units for administrative captains and five police units.
The council reminded that, five years ago the council had approved considering a brand new fleet after the present lease had expired.
That lease expired in May.
Concerning retiree benefits, current policy requires that an employee must have purchased major medical coverage through the city’s insurance plan for 10 years to be eligible for retirement insurance benefits.
The council today will consider lowering that requirement to two years for eligibility.
The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at 426 N. Avenue F and is open to the general public.
