Qualifying to begin for St. Landry Parish president

Qualifying will be held Wednesday through Friday for St. Landry Parish president.
Charles Jagneaux, clerk of court, announced the qualifying dates recently.
Qualifying will be held at the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office in Suite 207 Administration, 118 S. Court St., St. Landry Parish Courthouse, Qualifying will be held from 8: a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
Qualifying also will be held for constable justice of the peace District 9, constable justice of the peace District 11, and constable justice of the peace District 13.
The primary election is scheduled March 20 and the general election is April 24.
Jessie Bellard has been serving as parish president after being voted into the job by the Parish Council on Aug. 24.
Bellard said when he was voted into the position he intends to run for election.
The Eunice News will publish announcements for candidates in the March 20 primary election at no charge when accompanied by payment for advertising.
A candidate’s commitment to run $250 of advertising must be paid in advance before an announcement is published; however, the advertising can run at any time during the campaign.
Political announcements for the election must be submitted to The Eunice News by Feb. 22.
The announcements are biographical only and limited to 400 words. They will contain no campaign promises, pledges or references to other candidates. That material should be included in paid political advertising.
The announcements are used on a first-come basis and publication date depends on space available.
A photo of the candidate is used if provided.
