The commander of VFW Post 8971 in Eunice Don Reber was recently elected as the state junior vice commander during the VFW State Convention held at the Eunice Post on June 20.
Reber said, “It was the only time ever that a Post home hosted a state convention. Normally a state convention is held in a hotel in Louisiana and over the period of three days. However, with us experiencing COVID-19, the state convention was limited to one day only.” It was an honor for our VFW Post to serve.”
There are 80 Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in the state of Louisiana. Reber added, “There were representatives from every post that attended. Nearly 140 people attended the convention.”
Reber said that he was proud of the city of Eunice and the Post for a successful convention. He added, “There were many people who approached me saying how impressed they were with the hospitality of the post and the city of Eunice.”
With Reber named as the state junior vice commander his responsibilities will grow. He will work hand-in-hand alongside the senior vice commander and state commander as well. He added, “We will conduct business meetings with all VFW posts in the state of Louisiana, which includes 10 districts, and 80 posts. We will work closely together.”
Reber says that the VFW posts elected titles follows as a junior vice commander, then senior vice commander and next a state commander. Reber will serve as the state commander in the year 2022-2023.
Reber was re-elected commander of the VFW Post 8971. He also holds the titles of all-State commander and all-American commander.
