Registrar notes key election dates

The last day to register to vote by mail or in person is June 10 for the primary election July 11, according to Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters.
Persons interested in participating in the upcoming election must make any changes to their record by this deadline.
Registration applications may be completed at the Registrar’s Office in Suite 114 of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse at 118 S. Court St., Opelousas, LA. Additionally, individuals can go online @ WWW.GeauxVote.Com. to register to vote and take care of any changes that need to be made on your record. These forms must be postmarked or submitted by June 10 deadline.
The primary purpose of this state wide election is for voters of the major parties (Democrat and Republican) to express their preference for a person to be the nominee of the party for President of the United States and to and to elect members to their state central committee and parish executive committees with the Democratic and Republican parties. This will be a closed party election.
Only Democrats may vote for Democratic candidates and Republicans may vote for a Republican candidate. Some voters will not be eligible to vote for A Presidential nominee if they are not registered as a Democrate or a Republican. But they will be eligible to vote for any other items that may be on the ballot such as proposals.
Please wear facemasks for early voting.
Important dates
July 7 — Deadline to request mail ballot from registrar.
July 10 — Deadline for registrar to receive voted mail ballot other than military and overseas.
June 20 — Early voting begins.
July 4 — Early boting ends.
