St. Landry Parish sales tax collections in January began the year with increases compared to December collections.
Total sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish were $7,895,905, up 29% or $1,786,160 from the December collections, according to the report released Friday by the St. Landry Parish School Board sales tax division.
The upswing in January reflected the 2020 total that was 11.2% more than was collected in 2019.
The January collections primarily reflect sales in December.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities.
The totals do not include state sales taxes. The sales tax numbers are gross collections.
In Eunice, January collections were $652,080, up 19.2% or $104,900 from December.
In Opelousas, January collections totaled $1,037,131, up $190,093 or 22.4% over December collections.
In Road District 1, which is collected in unincorporated St. Landry Parish, January’s total was $762,942, up 32.2% or $185,727 over December’s total.
In Eunice, January collections of $652,080 were up 3.6% or $22,840 from January 2020 collections.
Opelousas collections totaled $1,037,131, down 5.1% or $55,990 from January 2020.
In Road District 1, January’s total of $762,942 was down 11% or $94,482 from January 2020.
Total St. Landry Parish sales tax collections in January were down 3.1% or $250,996 from January 2020.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55% parish tax rates that includes the 2% Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.45% city and 3.55% parish.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
