Sales tax collections outpacing last year

Sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish are on pace to finish the year at a record level, according to the November sales tax report from the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.
The 11-month total for sales taxes in St. Landry Parish were $71,599.254, up 11.4% from the same period in 2019.
The year-to-date total in Eunice was $6,262,550, a $1,257,116 increase over the same period in 2019.
Sales tax collections in the parish in 2019 totaled 69,912,003.
In Opelousas, sales tax collections through November totaled $9,695,382, up $558,803 or 6% over the same period in 2019.
In Road District 1, where a 2% sales tax in unincorporated St. Landry Parish funds the Smooth Ride Home Program, year-to-date collections through November totaled $7,199,543, up 21.6% or $1,279,125 over the same period in 2019.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities.
The total doesn’t include state sales taxes.
The sales tax numbers are gross collections.
In Eunice, $599,198 was collected in November, up $129,421 or 27.5% over November 2019. The November collections were down $301,124 or 33.4% from the October collections. The sales tax office attributed October’s total of $900,322 to an increase grocery store sales, fast food sales and hotel room rentals.
In Opelousas, November collections totaled $930,889, up $93,341 or 11% over November 2019, but a $33,306 decrease from the October total.
In Road District 1, November collections totaled $685,697, up $333,718 from November 2019, but down $62,007 or 8.3% from October.
Total sales tax collections in November in the parish were $6,821,590, up 31.5% or $1,634,283 over November 2019’s total but down 8.8% or $659,796 from the October total.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55% parish tax rates that includes the 2% Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.45% city and 3.55% parish.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
