Sales tax report presents mixed picture

Sales tax revenue for Eunice and St. Landry Parish presented a mixed picture at the end of March, according to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Eunice’s collections were off 3.6 percent from January through March compared to the same three months a year ago.
Eunice collections totaled $1,326,447 through March compared to $1,375,483 in 2016.
March revenue was $393,486, a 3.9 percent decrease from March 2016’s revenue of $409,281.
The March total was up 2.8 percent from February’s $382,807.
Total sales tax revenue in St. Landry Parish from January through March was $16,794,324, up from $15,998,241 — a 5 percent increase.
The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
Parish revenue in March was $4,851,627, a 2.3 decrease from February’s $4,965,172.
Parish revenues increased 1.3 percent in March compared to March 2016’s $4,790,526.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
