Sales tax revenue up in April

Eunice sales tax collections jumped 28 percent from March to April, however, collections from January through April lag 1.6 percent below the same period in 2016.
According to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division, Eunice sale tax revenue was $503,493 in April, up from $393,486 in March.
A similar increase occurred in 2016 when there was an 18 percent increase in sales tax revenue from March to April in Eunice. The April 2016 total was $483,899.
From January through April, Eunice sales tax collections totaled $1,829,940, which is 1.6 percent below the same period in 2016.
April’s collection of $503,493 was a 4 percent increase over those in April 2016.
Total sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish were up compared to those in 2016. The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
Collections from January through April were $23,246,777, up 4.4 percent over the same period in 2016 when the total was $22,276,152.
Collections jumped 33 percent from March to April, when the total was $6,452,453, a $1,600,824 bump in revenue.
Collections rose 2.8 percent in comparing April of this year to April 2016, when revenue totaled $6,277,911.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
