Sales tax revenues slowed in October

Year-to-date sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish slowed in October compared to September, according to a report from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
St. Landry Parish collections from January through October were $54,927,360, up 2.2 percent from the same 10-month period in 2016. The year-to-date collections in September were up 3.6 percent from 2016.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
In Eunice, sales tax collections from January through October were $4,425,984, which was a 0.3 percent increase over the same period in 2016. The figure represents a retreat from the 1.1 percent year-to-date increase posted in September.
Opelousas sales tax revenues for January through October were $8,194,401, a 1.9 percent increase from the same period in 2016.
In Eunice, sales tax collections tumbled 10.3 percent from September to October when they were $428,801, down $49,349 from September’s total.
October’s $428,801 was down 6.6 percent from October 2016’s collection of $459,149.
In St. Landry Parish, there was a 3.8 percent drop in collections from September to October, when the total was $5,584,706.
The collections in the parish were off 9.3 percent in comparison October 2017 to October 2016, when $6,159,312 was collected.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish tax rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
