East Elementary was honored for being the state’s highest ranking Top Growth school during the St. Landry Parish School Board meeting Thursday.
Angela Cassimere, director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment, said, “In St. Landry Parish we’ve always been recognized for somethings, usually we are never first. We have the privilege this afternoon of recognizing one of our schools, East Elementary, for the hard work they have done...”
In August, the state Department of Education reported 78 percent of the students at East Elementary are on track to mastery in mathematics followed by 74 percent in English Language Arts.
Principal Gina La Grange and some of the staff at East Elementary attended the meeting.
“This is an opportunity for Mrs. LaGrange and her staff members who are here to share with you the work they have been doing to grow the students so that our students will be on track and be able to attain mastery,” Cassimere said.
LaGrange said, “We are very proud and I’m very honored to serve as principal at East Elementary. It takes more than just one person. It is an entire team that gets this type of work done.”
LaGrange said, “We’ve been celebrating for a week now.”
