FEMA approved St. Landry Parish for Individual Assistance following Hurricane Laura.
Also added were Caddo and LaSalle parishes.
Homeowners and renters may now apply for federal disaster assistance for uninsured and under-insured damage and losses resulting from Hurricane Laura.
To be eligible for federal disaster aid, storm damage and losses from the hurricane and flooding must have occurred as a result of Hurricane Laura from Aug. 22 to 27.
Gov. John Bel Edwards said, “People all across Louisiana were impacted when Hurricane Laura brought its strong winds ashore, knocking out power and causing massive destruction. The people of these three parishes will be greatly assisted by this FEMA aid, and I hope they will register. Already FEMA has registered more than 140,000 households in Louisiana, paying out more than $89 million to survivors of Hurricane Laura, including more than $59 million for housing assistance and almost $30 million for other needs assistance.”
Federal FEMA assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans for uninsured property loss and other programs to help people and businesses recover from Hurricane Laura.
St. Landry Parish also was added to the parishes approved for Public Assistance. The list also includes Acadia, Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana parishes.
People who sustained losses in Hurricane Laura in the designated parishes can begin applying for assistance by registering online at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
