The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) released the Cohort Graduation Rate for all the state’s high schools and St. Landry Parish School District is saw an increase of 6.9 percent points from 2015-2016, bringing St. Landry Parish School District up to a 73.5 percent graduation rate in 2018, according to a news release from the district.
Five of the seven St. Landry Parish high schools have shown improvement from the previous year, with the biggest increase being seen at Northwest High School. Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts had the highest graduation rate, with a perfect 100 percent.
This increase in-part is attributed to increased Advanced Placement (AP) offerings through National Mathematics and Science Initiative (NMSI), programs and partnerships implemented by the district aimed at increasing opportunities for our students, the news release stated.
Programs implemented in addition to NIMSI include, JumpStart After Hours, JumpStart Summer, Career and Technical Education, and Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG).

Over the past few years, we have also partnered with Louisiana State University at Eunice (LSUE), and Northwestern to offer our students dual enrollment opportunities.
The school partnered with Southwest Louisiana Community College (SLCC) to establish the St. Landry Parish Collegiate Technical Academy for those students wishing to earn a technical diploma while in high school.
In addition, the district will partner with Southern University to expand dual enrollment opportunities for St. Landry Parish students, the news release stated.
