Due to the Stay at Home order issued by Gov. John Bel Edwards that went into effect at 5 p.m. Monday, St. Landry Parish has made the following changes to their operations.
PARISH COURTHOUSE
The Parish Courthouse will have limited access. Only 10 visitors are being allowed in at a time as a precautionary measure.
PARISH GOVERNMENT
Parish offices are temporarily closed until further notice.
The following parish agencies are doing business by phone only:

Community Action Agency – 337-948-3651.
Public Works – 337-407-0950.
Permits Office – 337-948-0388. If there is no answer, call 337-948-3688.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) One Stop Center – 844-385-1919.
These parish functions will be handled by appointment only:

REGISTRAR OF VOTERS
The office is closed until further notice. Citizens wishing to register to vote can visit geauxvote.com.
TAX ASSESSOR’S OFFICE
The office will be temporarily closed until further notice. The office will be conducting business by phone and email. The Assessor’s office can be reach at 337-942-3166 and rhynd@bellsouth.net. Staff will be available to take calls and handle request.
CLERK OF COURTS OFFICE
The Clerk of Courts offices are making adjustments to the way they operate and the services they are providing during the Stay at Home Order.
Birth and Death Certificates will not be issued by the Clerks Office. They will be available through the Bureau of Vital Statistics by calling 337-504-5100 or visiting vitalrecords.dhh.la.gov.
Applications for Passports will not be accepted. Call 877-487-2778 for information on applying for a passport.
Marriage Licenses will be issued by mail or dropped off at the courthouse entrance. For information, call 337-942-5606 extension 107.
Recordings will be accepted by mail or dropped off at the courthouse entrance. Additional information can be obtained by calling 337-942-5606 extension 107.
Pleadings and other filings in the court division will be accepted by mail, fax, or dropped off at the courthouse entrance.
Protective Orders will be handled over the phone. Please call 337-942-5606, extension 129.
The April 4 Presidential Preference Election has been postponed to June 20 and May 9 General Election has been postponed to July 21.
All oaths can be done before a Notary Public and mailed to the Clerk’s Office at St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court, P.O. Box 750, Opelousas, LA 70570
THE 27TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURT
The 27th Judicial District Court in St. Landry Parish has issued cancellations and changes in the way the courts will conduct business during the Stay at Home order by the governor.
Judges’ offices are closed to the public at this time and access to the courthouse is limited to 10 people at a time.
All civil and criminal trials, hearings and court appearances are cancelled through April 13 by Order of the Supreme Court of Louisiana. This specifically includes the following:
Judge Meche’s criminal rules set for March 26 reset for April 23.
Judge Meche and Judge Caswell’s civil rules set for March 30.
Judge Meche’s misdemeanor pre-trials scheduled for April 1. Misdemeanor trials remain set for April 24.
Judge Doherty’s criminal rules set for April 2.
Judge Doherty and Judge Harris’ civil rules set for April 3.
Traffic matters set for April 6.
Judge Meche’s criminal docket sounding and pleas set for April 7-8.
Judge Caswell’s civil jury selection set for April 7.
Judge Caswell’s criminal rules set for April 9.
Non-support appeals set for April 9 before Judge Meche.
Judge Meche’s criminal jury selection set for April 13.
The judges will continue to hold 72-hour magistrate hearings (“morning lineup”) daily via the court’s closed-circuit television system.
No bench warrants will be recalled through the judges’ offices at this time.
Other emergency matters will be scheduled on a case by case basis.
