St. Landry Parish priest faces abuse allegation

The Diocese of Lafayette state it was informed last week of an allegation of abuse of a minor by a priest, according to a news release from the diocese.
The alleged incident occurred several years ago, and the alleged victim is now an adult. The diocese and the alleged victim have reported the allegation to law enforcement authorities and the diocese is assisting and cooperating fully with the civil investigation.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office stated in an email that it is investigating the allegation.
The diocese stated allegations have been made against the Rev. Michael Guidry, pastor of St. Peter Church in Morrow and Resurrection Chapel in Whiteville.
In accordance with diocesan policy, Guidry has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the civil and diocesan investigation, the news release stated.
The diocese news statged it will provide no further details concerning the case.
During the interim, Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel has appointed the Rev. Tom Voorhies as administrator of St. Peter Church and Resurrection Chapel. Voorhies is a former pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Eunice.
The Diocese of Lafayette provides crisis counseling for anyone suffering from abuse, the news release stated. The diocese further encourages anyone with knowledge or cause to believe abuse has occurred to contact civil authorities.
