St. Landry Parish public schools to start Sept. 8 -- virtually

The St. Landry Parish School Board decided to move its start date from Aug. 20 to Sept. 8 in a special meeting on Monday.
The Board also held firm on its directive to begin the school with virtual classes.
The school system has yet to receive enough Chromebooks for every student and that resulted in a question about providing equal education opportunity.
Courtney Joiner, the Board’s legal counsel, said given the decision, it owed be up to Superintendent Patrick Jenkins and his staff to come up a plan.
