St. Landry Parish sales tax collections show increase

Total St. Landry Parish sales tax revenue rose 3 percent from November 2017 to November 2018, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Through November, sales tax revenue totaled $63.5 million.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities. The total does not include state collections.
The parish total in November of $$5,469,251 was 9.5 percent higher than the November 2017 collections. But collections dipped 5.4 percent or $312,659 from the September collections.
In Eunice, sales tax collections through November totaled $4,58,275, a 4.3 percent increase over the same period in 2017. Collection rose 0.6 percent in November compared to November 2017. In November, collections totaled $417,509, down 7 percent from the October collections.
In Opelousas, collections through November totaled $8,878,847, down 0.5 percent from the same period in 2017. The $731,780 collected in November was an 11 percent decrease from October. Collections dropped 2.2 percent in a November to November comparison.
The parish 2 percent Road District 1 tax that pays for the Smooth Ride Home program totaled $6,408,758, a 4.2 percent increase over the 2017 collections tallied through November.
The road district’s November collections were $597,708, up 11 percent from October’s collections and up 28.8 percent from the November 2018 total.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.2 percent city and 3.55 percent parish.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55 percent parish tax rates that includes the 2 percent Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
