State parks, welcome centers closing due to weather

The Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism announces the following closures due to high water levels over roadways – resulting from Tropical Storm Harvey – leading to the facilities:
Atchafalaya Welcome Center, located at Exit 121 on I-10
New Orleans Welcome Center, Jackson Square
Grand Isle State Park on the eastern end of Grand Isle
Lake Fausse Pointe State Park outside of St. Martinville
Tickfaw State Park near Springfield
The Atchafalaya and New Orleans Welcome Centers are anticipated to reopen Friday, Sept. 1, while Grand Isle State Park should reopen Friday, Sept. 1 and Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is expected to reopen on Monday, Sept. 4. The park remains open for day-use only, pending cabin repairs. Tickfaw State Park will remain closed until Tuesday, Sept. 5.
These closures are in addition to the closures of Cypremort Point, Lake Fausse Pointe, Palmetto Island, and Sam Houston Jones State Parks over the weekend.
