Swine Fest seeking talent show contestants, pork cook-off teams

There are many activities that make up the annual La. Swine Festival held in Basile every first weekend of November. Several of those activities are competitions such as the pig chase, the boudin eating contest, the hog calling contest, the talent show, and the pork cook off.
The first two of these competitions are the talent show and the cook off.
The talent show takes place at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at the BHS Gym and is open to amateur performers through high school age. Each act is limited to five minutes with awards being presented for solos, duets, and trios, and groups (four or more performers). First, second, and third place ribbons will be presented with a grand prize of $100 going to the best overall act.
All entries must be preregistered by Oct. 30. Entry forms are available at louisianaswinefestival.com and at the Basile High School library. Entry fees are $10 for solos, duets, and trios and $25 for groups of four or more.

Public admission is $5 per person. Concessions will be sold.
The pork cook-off is held Nov. 2 at the town park with registration and cooking beginning at 7 a.m.
The team cook-off still includes the categories of pot, pit, Cajun microwave, and cracklins. Team cooking may begin as early as 7 a.m. with judges’ samples ready for pick up at 11:30 a.m. Entry fee is $35 per team per category. first, second, and third place plaques are presented in each category with a grand champion team being selected.
