Unidentified person dies in fiery cash on U.S. 90 in Acadia Parish

An unidentified person was killed after the vehicle they were driving crashed and caught fire in a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 90 in Rayne about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release.



The State Police investigation revealed that a 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer was traveling west on U.S. 90 in Acadia Parish when it crossed the centerline, ran off of the left side of the roadway, entered a ditch and struck a utility pole.  

After impact with a utility pole, the Lancer caught fire, the report stated.  



Due to the damage sustained in the crash, it is unknown if the driver was wearing a seat belt. The driver was unable to escape the vehicle and perished in the fire.



The driver is unidentified at this time and was pronounced dead on the scene by a Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office representative.  

Troopers are working on positively identifying the driver.



 Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending.  This crash remains under investigation.
