St. Landry-Evangeline United Way is partnering with the United Way of Orange County, Texas for Hurricane Harvey disaster relief efforts.
Ginger LeCompte, Executive Director of St. Landry-Evangeline United Way, said, “We felt that our collection efforts here would find a need in a community similar to ours that may have limited resources.”
After reaching out to the United Ways of Texas for information, LeCompte concluded that Orange, Texas, shares similar characteristics, both historically as well as demographically, and the United Way is similar in size, with only two paid staff, according to a news release from the United Way headquartered in Opelousas.
Maureen McAllister, president and CEO of United Way of Orange County, is piecing resources together, while working from her home, car and cell phone, as her United Way office is also coping with a foot of water, according to the news release.
Any assistance will be appreciated now and in the coming days.
St. Landry-Evangeline United Way is accepting emergency supplies that include cleaning supplies, new socks and underwear (male & female), baby supplies, toiletries and hygiene items, and financial contributions. Donated items and monetary donations will go to assist the Harvey victims served by the United Way of Orange County, Texas.
