Mike Broussard is a Lawtell native who has played Zydeco music since he was 8 years old. Broussard credits his uncle, Herbert Broussard, a singer and songwriter for Zydeco Force, and his cousin, Jeffrey Broussard, a member of Jeffrey Broussard & the Creole Cowboys, for teaching him about the music and allowing him to be a part of a Zydeco band.
Broussard played the washboard in his first band performance with Roy Carrier & the Zydeco Night Rockers. Later, he played guitar with Wayne Singleton & the Same Ol Two Step. He has also played with bands such as Keith Frank & the Soileau Zydeco Band, Lil Nate & the Zydeco Big Timers, Chris Ardoin & Nu Step Zydeco and many others. In 2017, Broussard decided to start his own band. His goal was to keep Zydeco music alive in modern society. Mike Broussard & Nu Edition Zydeko play a mix of traditional and new-age Zydeco and strive to mesh the feel of the old school and new school into something original and fun for everyone.
People attending the free Zydeco Breakfast are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.
