McNeese rodeo returns, Eunice student is on team

McNeese State University’s 67th annual rodeo returns to Burton Coliseum with a special Halloween rodeo at 7:30 p.m. today open free to the public. The competition begins on Friday with the slack at noon and performances at 7:30 p.m. and resumes Saturdaywith the slack at 9 a.m.

Eunice Police officer mourned

A Eunice Police patrol vehicle was parked on the side of the municipal complex on Tuesday after second-generation Eunice Police officer Robert “Beef” Brickley died on Monday. Brickley, who was 44 years old, had served 16 years with the department.

Thanksgiving, Christmas events center on 2nd Street

The successful Fall Into Downtown cheer is to be continued with holiday events centered on 2nd Street in the coming weeks. Noel on the Prairie is coming up on Nov. 13 and 14. An added attraction during the weekend shopping event is a jam session on Nov. 13 in the Jean Lafitte courtyard.

Edwards lifts mask mandate

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced he will lift Louisiana’s statewide mask mandate in all settings except for K-12 schools, after sustained improvement across the state in terms of new cases, test positivity and hospitalizations.

Veterans Day special edition scheduled

The Eunice News will honor area veterans in a special edition. Veterans Day is observed on Nov. 11. This is the third year for the tribute to veterans. Veterans may update or add information to previously submitted material. Veterans who missed submitted information in are invited to do so.

School Board finances closed with healthy balance

The books closed on the St. Landry Parish School Board’s 2020-2021 fiscal year and the report was better than previously reported with a $5.4 million general fund balance. The balance sheet had been showing a $2.3 million general fund balance at the end of July.
