Starting today, phone calls require area code

Starting Sunday, all phone calls will require an area code to connect, even if you’re just calling across the street, according to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Fall Into Downtown

The crowd at Fall Into Downtown seemed to be steadily build after starting at 5:30 p.m. The success of Fall Into Downtown was “unreal,” said Alicia Mire, the city’s Main Street director. There are estimates the crowd numbered at least 1,000 people, she said.

Mar Services suit in federal court

The suit to clean up alleged contamination at the Mar Services site is lingering in federal court until the appropriate legal jurisdiction is determined, said Environmental attorney Bill Goodell. Legal action pertaining to the 80-acre, former EPA Superfund site began in September 2020 when the St.

Municipal trash pickup moving to once-a-week

Trash collection in St. Landry Parish’s municipalities will be done weekly instead of twice-weekly a year from now. Rural residents have always had once-weekly trash pickup since the late 1980s when the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Commission organized the service.

Park Avenue improvement project to begin on Monday

Reconstruction work on Park Avenue from 12th to Jake is scheduled to begin Monday to be followed by seven other streets in a $1.3 million city street improvement program.
