VFW Post and Auxiliary held a drive-thru for essay winners

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 and Ladies Auxiliary each year host and sponsor an Americanism essay contest for Eunice students. Students from all Eunice elementary, junior high and high schools enter and participate in the contest.

Organized religion’s value to a republic

Fewer Americans are attending traditional church services. Fewer are attending Catholic schools, too. According to Gallup, the number of Americans who belong to a church, synagogue or mosque continued to decline last year, dropping below 50%for the first time in Gallup’s eight-decade trend.

Crowley aldermen discuss creating a deputy chief job

CROWLEY — Police Chief Jimmy Broussard wants authorization to create a new position in his department — a deputy chief — and at least one member of the city council is opposed. Broussard broached the subject with the council’s Public Safety Committee recently.
