EUNICE~It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Bryan Benard Frey announces his passing on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the age of 60. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata.

Marie Miller Dupre

EUNICE–It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marie Miller Dupre announces her passing on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice with loving family by her side at the age of 71. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 2 p.m.

Kelly Wayne Darbonne

EUNICE–It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kelly Wayne Darbonne announces his sudden passing on March 26, 2021 at The Allen Parish Hospital in Kinder at the age of 44. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Joseph "Lash" Vernel Guillory

Joseph “Lash” Vernel Guillory passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the age of 82. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Clinton Sensat officiant. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Rain, sleet and snow didn’t stop the azalea show

The azaleas are showing off right now, putting on their annual spring spectacular despite the recent sleet, snow and extended freezing temperatures across the state. I got a few frantic phone calls about whether delicate azalea buds would be damaged. Luckily, these flowers are cold hardy.

Stimulus helping fill School Board’s treasury

The St. Landry Parish School Board’s treasury is flush with local tax revenue and federal funds from COVID recovery and possible stimulus money to come. Sales tax revenue is “still coming in strong,” said Tressa Miller, finance director, at a meeting of the Board’s Finance Committee on Monday.
