Parish president says he asked for animal control probe

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard said he asked for an investigation into the parish Animal Control Center after taking office in August 2020. The St. Landry Parish Animal Control Center’s former director was arrested, booked on theft charges and malfeasance in office Friday.

State jobless rate at 7.6%

Preliminary data for January released Monday by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) shows that Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from December 2020 by 0.3 percentage points to 7.6%. This is the lowest rate for the state since the pre-pandemic March 2020 rate of 5.3%.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. March 12-14 Frank Robertson, 41, 200 block of Sampson St., Lafayette. Arrested on three counts of armed robbery. Arrested by Opelousas Police. Kayvoyon Latrell Sapp, 30, 3100 block of Little Teche Rd., Port Barre.

Clement Ted Matt passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the age of 47. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Quirk & Son Funeral Home of Eunice with Pastor Heather Ardoin officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.

VFW bingo Thurdays and Sundays The VFW Post 8971 will hold Bingo. The public is invited each Thursday and Sunday at 7 p.m. to play Bingo at the VFW Hall located on Hwy. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community. There will be a New game offered.
