Buller is candidate for St. Landry Parish president

Dwain Buller, lifelong resident of St. Landry Parish, has announced his candidacy for St. Landry Parish president. The special election for this seat is set for Saturday, March 20, with Early Voting is slated to be held March 6 through 13. Buller is the son of Stanley Buller, Jr.

Board to look at Maple Ave. speed limit

The Eunice Board of Aldermen may look at requesting the speed limit on the west end of Maple Avenue — La. 19 — be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph. The request is one of the items discussed for Tuesday’s Eunice Board meeting scheduled at 6:30 p.m.

School Board asks for a new direction

Some St. Landry Parish School Board member asked the superintendent to find a different way to improve under-performing schools. The request, which drew a passionate response from Superintendent Patrick Jenkins, came at the end of the Board’s meeting Thursday.

Hurricane debris lingers in parish

Hurricane debris in St. Landry Parish and particularly in Eunice continues to present a cleanup challenge. Richard LeBouef, executive director of the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Commission, estimated about 40% of the hurricane debris remains in the parish.

The Iota restaurant, The Snack Shack, was damaged by fire Tuesday night. According to the owners, the security company called around 10:30 p.m. stating that the alarms were going off and dispatched was called.

Reed named St. Landry Parish Middle School Student of the Year

Destiny Chante’ Reed, a fifth grader at Central Middle School, has recently been named St. Landry Parish Middle School Student of the Year. Reed is a 4.0 GPA honor student at the middle school campus. Reed is the daughter of Travis and Delana Reed. She has two siblings, Travis Reed Jr.

Keep Eunice Beautiful noted by state program in virtual meeting

In any typical year, you’d find all of the Everyday Heroes Award recipients in a ballroom during the Keep Louisiana Beautiful State Conference, sharing a meal, celebrating, and swapping success stories. 2020; however, was not a typical year.
