Kenny Beaugh honored at Acadiana High as a super fan

Often football stadiums are named after winning coaches and jersey numbers are retired, but something rare happened at Acadiana High on Oct. 16. A seat in the Wreckin’ Rams’ stadium was retired in honor of the school’s super fan, Kenny Beaugh.

Congressman tours Liberty Theater

The centerpiece of downtown Eunice, the Liberty Theater, was on view for a special showing Tuesday morning. U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson toured the theater, heard about its history from Charles Seale and about plans for its next act.

Acadia Parish property values up

Assessments are up and so is the number of people paying ad valorem taxes, Acadia Parish Tax Assessor James “Jimbo” Petitjean told police jurors during the regular October meeting. “The more people paying taxes, the less each person has to pay,” he explained.

Tommy DeJean, an attorney in Opelousas, was the guest speaker at the Eunice Rotary Club meeting on Oct. 14. DeJean spoke about finding Civil War artifacts using a metal detector.

Junkyard fire

At about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Eunice firefighters along with firefighters from Fire Acadia District 4, St. Landry Fire District 6 and the Basile Fire Department reported to a fire at the car junkyard located at Dresser Loop, north of Eunice, off of the old Basile Highway, La. 757.

Early voting is setting records

Early voting is setting records in St. Landry Parish. At the end of voting Tuesday, there 3,165 votes cast in Opelousas and 943 in Eunice, according to Cheryl Milburn, registrar of voters.

Are you missing some money?

A list of parish residents owed money by the state of Louisiana is published in today’s Eunice News. The state has millions of dollars it wants to return to its rightful owners, but first it has to locate those to whom money is owed, according to State Treasurer John M. Schroder Sr.
