What shall we say about 50 years of home ownership?

This is a year of double milestones: my mother’s house turns 75 and (as of October 30) she will have been living there for 50 years. She grew up as part of an itinerant sharecropping family during the Great Depression, so I’m glad she has enjoyed all these decades of stability.

Debris pickup slated to begin Monday

Back-to-back hurricanes left an avalanche of debris in Eunice and across the area that needs to be picked up. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said crews will begin picking up debris left on the side of roads on Monday. Whether it will be city or parish crews was uncertain Friday morning.

Early voting begins with strong turnout

Lines formed for early voting in Eunice and Opelousas on Friday. The Eunice poll at City Hall had a steady line of voters through the morning. In Opelousas, a line formed at the courthouse door before the poll opened at 8 a.m. Voter interest in the Nov.

John Edward Bihm

John Edward Bihm passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the age of 68. No Services have been planned at this time. John is survived by his wife, Rita Soileau Bihm; one brother, Frank G. Bihm, Jr.; two sisters, Susan Abbott and Mary Schwartz.

John Michael Bacon passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the age of 70. No Services have been planned at this time. John is survived by his mother, Mae Fruge; one brother, Donald R. Bacon; one sister, Babra Sisk and husband Jimmy. He was preceded in death by his father, John O. Bacon, Jr.

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. October 15 Alex Hardy, 20, 300 block of South Martin Luther King, Eunice. Illegal carrying of weapons, disturbing the peace. Brandon Levons Guidry, 46, 600 block of Bernice, Eunice. Battery of a correctional facility employee.

Crowley woman dies in two-vehicle crash on La. 13

At about 1 p.m. Thursday, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a two-vehicle crash on La. 13, south of Wilder Road, in Acadia Parish. The crash took the life of 63-year-old Pauline Martha Faulk of Crowley.

Early voting begins Friday

Early voting for the Nov. 3 election begins Friday and continues through Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily except for Sundays, according to Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters. Early voting will be held in the Eunice City Hall, 300 S. 2nd St.
