Joseph Fontenot

Joseph Fontenot passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the age of 78. No Services have been planned at this time. Joseph is survived by two daughters, Krista Courville and husband Jessie, Deanna Fontenot; one sister, Rumanell Andrus.

Alice Gartman

Alice Gartman passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the age of 84. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 8 p.m. at Quirk and Son Funeral Home of Eunice. At the request of family, visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020 from 12 noon until 10 p.m.

A good part of Laura’s damage in Lake Charles was in a part of town still sometimes called Goosport. It was named for Captain Daniel Johannes Goos, who was one of the pioneers of the southwest Louisiana lumber industry.

Registrar of voters issues reminder of key voter dates

The last day to register to vote by mail/in person for the Nov. 3 election is 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5. Cheryl Milburn, registrar of voters of St. Landry Parish, released a reminder of key election dates for voters. The online deadline to register for the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 13.

St. Landry Parish students, teacher headed back to classes

The St. Landry Parish School Board voted to send students in pre-kindergarten to fourth-grade back to school and fifth through 12th grades back to school in a hybrid schedule. Students are also allowed the option of continuing to learn virtually.

Community Health Center asks for help

The Eunice Community Health Center is usually involved in providing health care to those in need, but the coronovirus turned that situation around. Now, the clinic is needing the public’s help because the virus shutdown many of its usual sources of funding.
