Food Drive today at Word Ministries The Farmers to Families Food Box Program and the Eunice Food Bank will hold a free drive through food drive from 1 to 3 pm. at Word Ministries. Food boxes will be distributed on a first-come and first served basis until all food is distributed.

Qualifying begins with local races taking shape

OPELOUSAS — Candidates at qualifying that began Wednesday seemed to be obeying the mandate to wear masks. Masks are requested of those entering the Delta Grand building on Market Street in Opelousas where qualifying for the Nov. 3 election began.

Positive COVID-19 cases in St. Landry Parish on the rise

The number of positive COVID-19 cases in St. Landry Parish have been on the increase since June 25, according to data on the Louisiana Department of Health’s website. From June 25 to July 1, 13.8% of the tests in St. Landry Parish were positive. From July 2 to 8, the positive rate rose to 19%.

Acadia Parish non-violent offenders may get electronic monitoring

It’s an issue of cost. The Acadia Parish Police Jury can either pay $25.35 per day to house prisoners out of parish or $11 per day for electronic monitoring bracelets. Tuesday night (July 14), jurors opted for the latter. Acadia Parish has 180 beds in its parish jail.

Church Point Police officers receive raise

The Church Point Town Council unanimously approved a pay raise for the town’s police department patrol officers. Church Point Police Chief Dale Thibodeaux said, “Trying to keep good, quality officers, trying to attract good quality officers — this is not a raise for all Church point police officers.

USDA expands Farmers.gov features to help manage conservation activities

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Louisiana has announced an application period for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program-Wetlands Reserve Easements (ACEP-WRE) in fiscal year 2021. Private landowners across the state are encouraged to apply.

Free COVID-19 testing available

Acadia Parish is continuing its partnership with the Louisiana Department of Health to maintain a mobile COVID-19 testing site in Crowley. Free, drive-thru tests were performed in Crowley earlier this week and will be administered again through Friday.
