Chicot State Park to reopen

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Office of State Parks announce the reopening of Chicot State Park in Ville Platte to the public. The south campground and cabins are available for reservations, effective immediately for stays beginning on June 26.

Information sought about lawn mower, trailer theft

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the felony theft of a lawn mower and trailer from the 4200 block of Ebenezer Road, south of Crowley at about midnight June 5.

World War II Navy veteran Ernest Andrus will be 97 years old on Aug. 19 and is on his second coast to coast run across the United States. On May 19, he made his way through Basile, being escorted down Highway 190 by Earline Fruge, local sheriff’s deputy.

AT&T has extended high-speed internet service to many rural parishes in Acadiana, part of the 60,000 homes and 45 parishes the company connected.

‘Dead Zone’ may remain 4X larger than the goal set in 2001

A recent forecast of the size of the “Dead Zone” in the northern Gulf of Mexico for late July is that it will cover 7,769 square-miles of the bottom of the continental shelf off Louisiana and Texas. The coronavirus pandemic has had no impact on the Gulf of Mexico dead zone.

Eunice Farmers’ Market opens The Eunice Farmers’ Market is open to the public on Wednesday and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon on the grounds of Eunice Community Gardens, located behind the DMV building at 2101 West Ash.

American Legion building hits another delay

A plan for the city to give the American Legion building on Park Avenue back to the veterans’ group took another turn at Tuesday’s meeting of the Eunice Board of Aldermen. The Board was set to act on two resolutions involving the building, which has housed the Eunice Food Bank.
