I don’t know about you, but the next time I hear someone refer to the “new normal,” I think I might scream into my middle daughter’s unacceptable new bikini bottoms that I plan to confiscate and turn into a coronavirus face mask.

Cristobal already a record storm

Cristobal was a storm for the record books as soon as it was named on Tuesday, June 2. That is the earliest an Atlantic or Gulf storm beginning with the letter C has formed since record-keeping began in 1851 (or that would have been a C-storm before we began naming them).

Hail damages portion of rice crop

Rice plants are recovering from a hailstorm last week, but yield losses are expected in some fields. The storm hit on the night of May 26. The National Weather Service indicated hail up to 2 inches in diameter fell on a 200-square-mile area of southwest Louisiana, mostly north of Welsh and Jennings.

City prepares for Cristobal

“We are in hurricane season and we want to be ready for any storm that heads our way,” Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said at a meeting Thursday concerning Tropical Storm Cristobal. “I want the council to appoint Robert Johnson as the emergency preparedness coordinator for the city,” Fontenot said.

Sandbags available in St. Landry Parish

St. Landry Parish Government has announced sandbagging for the parish will be available Friday and Saturday at several locations in the parish. Sandbags are free to the residence of St. Landry parish, but the public is asked to maintain social distancing protocols and bring their own shovel.
