Gov. John Bel Edwards said Monday he will grant the state school board’s request to close school buildings for the rest of the school year.

Governor issues statement as COVID-19 death passes 1,000 in Louisiana

Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a statement as Louisiana’s death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 1,000 on Tuesday. At the state’s noon update, the Louisiana Department of Health reported 129 additional deaths, bringing the death total to 1,013.

Gov. Edwards reschedules elections

At the request of the Louisiana Secretary of State, Gov. John Bel Edwards has postponed Louisiana’s elections for another few weeks because of the COVID-19 outbreak in the state. The governor originally moved the elections on March 13.
