The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host their Wood Stork and Wading Bird Viewing Event on Aug. 2 at the South Farm of the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (WMA) complex. The event will be from 7-10 a.m.

Trooper, motorist injured in St. Landry Parish crash

Louisiana State Police Troop I continues to investigate the July 16 serious injury crash involving a trooper on U.S. 190 in Opelousas. The preliminary investigation revealed a trooper was investigating a prior two-vehicle crash near the intersection on U.S. 190 and La. 104.

This savannah at the Marsh Bayou WMA shows some of the success of the initial restoration efforts from 15 years ago, with a mixture of longleaf pine in a diverse ecosystem that allows sunlight to get to the ground, encouraging growth of grasses and other plants animals like Eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail and whitetail deer need to survive.

Eight Cleco volunteers from the Acadiana region were at the Eunice Community Garden Wednesday from 9 until 11 a.m. The event was part of Cleco’s Done In A Day program where Cleco volunteers work on a project in the company’s service territory that can be completed in a few hours.
