Port Barre man sentenced for carjacking, firearm, kidnapping

Jon Michael Mauldwin, 28, was sentenced today to 241 months in prison and five years of supervised release for a federal carjacking and related firearms charge stemming from the kidnapping of a Port Barre man, announced David C. Joseph, United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana.

Acadia jurors hire former Crowley councilman as secretary-treasurer

Former Crowley City Councilman and unsuccessful mayoral candidate Bryan Borill was appointed secretary-treasurer of the Acadia Parish Police Jury during a special meeting Wednesday, just one day after he first presented his resumé to the committee charged with making the selection.

Potent ‘gray death’ drug seized

A toxic blend of heroin, fentanyl and fentanyl analogs called “gray death” was discovered during a traffic stop by Eunice City Marshal Deputy Marcus Bergeron on Wednesday, according to City Marshal Terry Darbonne. The stop was made about 2 p.m.

Mayor to ask for resolution on Post Office

The Eunice Post Office is entering its fifth month closed with service being provided in a portable building on 3rd Street. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said he has not heard anything from the U.S. Postal Service about when the building will be reopened or details about the work.
