Eldine Jane Cormier Carrier

Eldine Jane Cormier Carrier passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the age of 86. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 1:30 PM at St Anthony Catholic Church with Father Austin Leger celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt Calvary Cemetery.

Barn fire in Acadia Parish

First-responders from Acadia Parish Fire District 4 and St. Landry Parish Fire District 6, and Eunice city marshals responded to a barn fire at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The barn is located at 127 Mardi Gras Lane, southeast of Eunice in Acadia Parish.

School Board talks about tax for pay raise for employees

By Harlan Kirgan Editor OPELOUSAS — St. Landry Parish School Board members are discussing raising pay for their employees with a property tax. But the tax for a pay raise discussed at a Jan. 27 meeting of the Board’s Finance Committee found little consensus other than it is needed.

Kabuki Dancers present ‘The Breakdown’ for Black History

The Kabuki Dancers were in Eunice this week, at Central Middle, Eunice Junior High and East Elementary celebrating Black History Month. The Kabuki Dancers are a group of performing artists from the Acadiana area of Louisiana.

Mayor cites progress, talks about the future

A 15-year road paving project is on the drawing board for Eunice, Mayor Scott Fontenot said. The program would involve using existing funds to pave streets in one project instead of the once every two year schedule the city uses now.

Sheriff: Eunice men had assault rifle at soccer game

Two Eunice men are charged with being armed with an assault rifle at a Beau Chene soccer game on Tuesday, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. “An alert student observed two males on the campus parking lot displaying what was later learned to be an AK 5.
