Parish burn ban about to be extinguished

A ban on burning in rural residential subdivisions is on its way for repeal. The St. Landry Parish Council voted 7-3 on Wednesday to repeal the burn ban that passed unanimously in June. Before the vote, Eunice resident Floyd Young said he and his neighbors oppose the burn ban.

Arnaudville hospital valued at $184,000

The former St. Luke General Hospital in Arnaudville has been valued at $184,000 in an appraisal presented to the St. Landry Parish Council on Wednesday. The Council followed the valuation report by Don Leger, an Opelousas appraiser, with a vote to proceed with the sale of the hospital.

Veteran sportswriter Burson retires

After covering the local sports teams since the 1970s, John Burson is retiring as a sportswriter for The Eunice News. Darrell J. Guillory, Eunice News publisher and chief operating officer of Louisiana State Newspapers, has known Burson since high school.

Kenneth Wayne Prejean passed away on Friday, Sept, 20, 2019, at the age of 60. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at New Hope Fellowship Church in Eunice with the Rev. Woody Gunnels officiating. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery in Mamou.
