Deadline nears for candidates to announce in The Eunice News

The Eunice News will publish free announcements for candidates in the Oct. 12 Gubernatorial Primary Election. The announcements are biographical only and limited to 400 words. They will contain no campaign promises, pledges or references to other candidates.

Center closed

The “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” show at the Liberty Theater was canceled for Saturday and Sept. 7 because the air conditioning system broke down. The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center was was closed Thursday, also due to the air conditioner issue.

LSUE joins city’s birthday celebration

The celebration of Eunice’s 125th birthday on Sept. 14 will include LSUE students and athletes, Connie Thibodeaux, alderwoman who is organizing the event. The birthday is being advertised on banners placed on different city entrance roadways and at the Eunice Recreation Complex on Sittig Road.

Voter signup drives planned at schools

A voter registration drive is to begin Tuesday in St. Landry Parish that will include public high schools and nursing homes. Cheryl Milburn, registrar of voters, released a schedule that coincides with a the state Voter Registration Week.
