Ready for competitive eating?

Long ago, I learned speed-eating to fit junior high yearbook editing into my lunch break. My first two dates with my wife featured the Bonanza Steakhouse buffet. I’ve gone “plague of locusts” on deviled eggs and pimento cheese sandwiches at countless church potluck dinners.

Mouton’s cane syrup took the prize

Alexandre (Aleck) Mouton, grandson and namesake of Governor Alexandre Mouton, made the best cane syrup in the world. At least that’s what the judges at the St. Louis World’s Fair said in 1903, giving it their highest award. That’s how the syrup came to be named Mouton’s Gold Medal Syrup.

Melvin Curtis Bellow

Melvin Curtis Bellow passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the age of 87. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Sam Fontana Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Thomas More Cemetery.

Bicylist, vehicle collide on U.S. 190 West on Saturday

A male bicyclist identified as John Sylvan Himel was struck by a vehicle Saturday on U.S. 190 West. Himel was transported to a Lafayette hospital for evaluation and treatment and as of Sunday Himel was discharged. Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef stated police were called ot the scene at 2 p.m.
