Power to be shut off Wednesday in Erath for repairs

ERATH — The Town of Erath will be without power early Wednesday. Mayor John Earl LeBlanc announced Monday afternoon that power will be shut off from midnight on Wednesday until 4 a.m. This will allow crews from Entergy to make repairs.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Sept. 24 Johnny Gus Ewing, 50, 2200 block of Bluebird Street, Slidell. Contractor fraud. Arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department. Terry Paul Alleman, 31, 300 block of Castille Street, Sunset.

Juvenile arrested after Highland Elementary break-in

A break-in occurred about midnight Sept. 17 at Highland Elementary, but by 9 a.m. a 15-year-old male juvenile was arrested for the crime. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said a window was broken and door pried open at the school.

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. Sept. 21 Tonya G. Lavergne, 41, 500 block of Highway 29, Eunice. Warrant for armed robbery. Kendall James Lee, 29, 1800 block of Harry Fuslier Road, Crowley. Driver’s license suspension-revocation, red lights, and resisting officer.

St. Thomas More Fall Fest dates set The St. Thomas More Church’s Fall Festival will be held Friday from 6 until 10 p.m., from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, and Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The fair armbands are $20 each for one 4-hour period. Weekend armbands are $40.

Congressman touts economy as a high point in past 2 years

U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, R-Benton, pointed to an economy “going gangbuster,” military spending increases and regulatory reform as among the high points of President Donald Trump and his nearly two years in office. Johnson, 46, held a town hall meeting Thursday in Sunset attended by about 25 people.

Help is on the way for parish’s gravel roads

St. Landry Parish’s Smooth Ride Home Program has transformed more than 300 miles of bumpy roads into smooth ones, but that left about 400 miles of gravel roads in the parish. And those gravel roads are often the source of complaints at Parish Council meetings.
