Council unloads about garbage collection

St. Landry Parish Council members vented about trash pickup with four members of the parish Solid Waste Commission present. Commission members appointed by the Council, Kathy Moreau, Reynard Readore, Edward Briscoe and Jodie Powell, attended Wednesday’s regular meeting of the Parish Council.

Jimmie Spears, 72, a native of Clinton, gained his wings on Sept. 11, 2018. Jimmie, known to many as “Chop-Chop,” was a great provider for his family and a friend to all. He was also a Vietnam Veteran and aerospace mechanic for over 30 years.

Man charged with attempted murder of detective

A 54-year-old Bayou Vista man has been charged with attempted murder of a detective after trying to stab the detective with a knife during an incident, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum said in a news release. Paul Levergne, 54, of Canal Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:39 a.m.

TATE COVE - Funeral services for Kathy McDaniel Riley, 59, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Ville Platte, and burial followed in the Fontenot Cemetery in Tate Cove. Rev. Kevin West officiated services.

Beebe, board reach settlement

The St. Martin School Board and former Superintendent Dr. Lottie Beebe have apparently reached a settlement following the termination of her employment earlier this month.

Equipment theft under investigation

Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish is asking the public’s help to solve a felony theft case. On Monday, Aug. 27, , deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the theft of two Multiquip air compressors, black and gray in color.
