No-wake order issued for St. Landry Parish waterways

In response to the heavy rainfall that inundated St. Landry Parish, Parish President Jessie Bellard has imposed no-wake restrictions on all parish lakes and waterways until further notice.

Animal cruelty charged

Following an ongoing investigation, St. Landry Parish Government investigators arrested Khouri Frisch, of 978 Mulberry Road, Opelousas, on 14 counts of simple animal cruelty and one count of aggravated animal cruelty, according to a news release from Jessie Bellard, parish president.

Barefoot Sunday at Unity Church of God There will be a Youth Ministry shoe drive, “Barefoot Sunday” from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at Unity Church of God in Christ. The church is located at 1220 East Maple Avenue in Eunice. The public is invited to donate shoes.

Sarah Jayde Williams was joined by Joshua Johnson at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve Prairie Acadian Cultural Center program Thursday. Williams is the granddaughter of famed Cajun musician Hadley Castille and she shared stories about her grandfather. Bill prohibits requiring race, gender classes

A Louisiana legislative committee has dramatically rewritten an anti-DEI policy proposal for state agencies that would now prohibit schools from requiring certain race and gender-based curriculum for undergraduate students.

Rains of about 6 inches from Tuesday overnight into Wednesday took a toll on the parish, “but it could have been been a lot worse as everybody knows,” St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard said at Wednesday’s Parish Council meeting in Opelousas.
