Shooting opens new leads to Christmas homicide

An 18-year-old self-confessed gang member’s shooting opened up new leads to a homicide that occurred during a 2107 Christmas party, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.

Scavengers tear up trash bags, spread paper on street

On West Jane Street, located just north of Abbeville, there was a 25 yard stretch of trash that should not be there, according to Police Jury Wayne Touchet. Touchet discovered the mess Tuesday afternoon. He got down and went through the trash and saw addresses and names of who the trash belonged to.

Oil/gas drilling activity, interest growing in area

ConocoPhillips is making a play in Louisiana’s portion of the Austin Chalk formation, raising the prospect of a resurgence of onshore drilling activity in the state. Some reports claim the the Houston-based oil company’s effort could be focused in the Simmesport area.
