EPPJ discusses proposed 2018 budget and a proposed pay raise for its secretary-treasurer

At a special meeting Wednesday night, an abridged Evangeline Parish Police Jury discussed the proposed 2018 budget that includes a $12,000.00 pay raise at 20-percent for Secretary-Treasurer Donald Bergeron which would bring his salary to an estimated $70,000.00.

Jean Francois passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2017, at the age of 81. No services have been scheduled at this time.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Office reports arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Dec. 11 Lorraine Thibodeaux, 54, 100 block of Carrington Place, Opelousas. Possession of stolen things. Arrested by Sunset Police Dept. Mathew David Hadley, 27, 1000 block of Bayou Rd., Port Barre.

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. Dec. 8 Thomas Jarona, 39, 1700 block of W. Magnolia, Eunice. Unauthorized entry of inhabited dwelling, simple criminal damage to property, above charges from felony warrants. Jamacia Allison, 23, 700 block of Court Street, Ville Platte.

Kiwanis Christmas parade set Thursday The annual Kiwanis Christmas parade will be at 5 p.m. Thursday. An award will be given for best float. At the conclusion of the parade, there will be cookies and punch with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the city hall’s lobby area. Line up is set for 4 p.m.

Christine Campbell Edwards

A funeral service will be held for Christine Campbell Edwards, 86, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Richard with burial to follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. Rev. Orville Rogers will officiate. Christine passed away on Saturday, December 9,2017.

UL Lafayette fall commencement is Dec. 15

Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees will be conferred during the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Fall 2017 Commencement ceremonies on Dec. 15 at the Cajundome and Convention Center. The General Assembly will be held at 11 a.m. at the Cajundome.
