On March 17, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the wearin’ o’ the green, and on March 19 special altars and devotions mark St. Joseph’s Day. These are special occasions and just about everyone at least takes note of them. That’s why I have for a long time felt sorry for St. Frigidian.

Carjacking suspect identified

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a carjacking and attempted second-degree murder that occurred at about 11 p.m. March 11. The victim in this case was asked to give the suspect a ride to a residence on Nation Road near Rayne.

Balfa Week begins Tuesday

The Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week will be held Tuesday through March 24 at Lakeview Park & Beach. In December, Jeanne Solis, executive director of Louisiana Folk Roots, said this will be the 21st Balfa Week and the second time to be held in Eunice.
A 2.5 acre plot of the Cajun Prairie Restoration site north of the Union Pacific railroad tracks was subjected to a controlled burn on Tuesday. Biologist and retired LSUE Professor Malcolm Vidrine was present and said the burn helps rid the site of non-native plants and the ash stimulates the deep native roots. St. Landry Parish sales tax collections continue gains

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections through February totaled $17,727,277, a 11.6% increase over the same two-month period in 2023, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division. In 2023, collections through February totaled $15,890,413.
