School Board panel sweetens employee Christmas stipend

The St Landry Parish School Board is planning on a $1,500 Christmas stipend for employees at $750 for permanent substitutes. After a presentation by Shaun Grantham, finance director, at an Executive Committee meeting Monday, employees may get a little extra in the stipend.

Fires strike within an hour of each other

There were two structure fires an hour apart on Saturday. The first fire occurred at 6:36 p.m. at the intersection of Sittig and La. 3116, East Ardoin. The trailer home at 170 East Ardoin was a total loss. No one was home at the time of the fire and the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Killer loses appeal on 30-year sentence

In April 2016, Raymond Celestine IV shot and killed Anthony Citizen at Vautrot’s Store located at Church Point. The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal recently upheld Celestine’s 30-year sentence. Celestine, of Church Point, was arrested for second-degree murder.
