Do you have a babysitting horror story?

At approximately the time this column is uploaded to the syndicate website, I will be attending the funeral of my Aunt Jean. I’m sure the eulogist will wax eloquent about heaven, but I want to nominate Aunt Jean to the Babysitter Hall of Fame.

Monetary crisis: Is the Fed to blame?

Our political leaders told us that inflation is transitory, the Banking System is fine, and that deficits don’t matter as Modern Monetary Theory allows us to print as much money as we need to fund deficit spending on welfare (for the 51% of voters who do not pay taxes).

UL Lafayette geosciences students stake claim as North America’s top oil prospectors

LAFAYETTE — A group of University of Louisiana at Lafayette geosciences students are the best in North America at determining where to drill for oil.

Huval elected to lead the Acadiana Legislative Delegation

State Rep. Mike Huval, R-Breaux Bridge, has been unanimously re-elected to lead the Acadiana Legislative Delegation for 2023.  First elected chairman in 2017, Huval represents House District 46, which includes parts of St. Martin, St. Landry, and Iberia parishes.

Eunice director of operations wins McDonald’s highest mid-level operations award

Bridget Miller, a 28-year employee of Patel McDonald’s in Eunice, has received the McDonald’s 2022 Outstanding Operations Contributor Award for her exceptional work in restaurant operations.

Meterologist experiencing his first hurricane season up close

With hurricane season soon approaching, Doug Cramer, warning coordinator meterologist with the National Weather Service of Lake Charles was the guest speaker Wednesday at the Rotary Club meeting. It’s Cramer’s first hurricane season in Louisiana. Cramer grew up in Kansas.

Eunice Police gear up with vests, body cams

Eunice Police are gearing up with new armored body vests, body cameras and security cameras. Police Chief Kyle LeBouef said officers began receiving the vests on April 17.

Questions table St. Landry Parish budget

Once again the St. Landry Parish Government budget prepared by Parish President Jessie Bellard was tabled by the Parish Council. “I have gone through the budget for several weeks. We are not ready to pass a budget tonight,” said Council member Harold Taylor.

Eunice man sentenced on federal drug charge

Shane Christopher Malveaux, 51, of Eunice, was sentenced in federal court to more than eight years in prison on a drug charge. According to U.S. Attorney Brandon Brown, Malveaux was sentenced on Thursday by U.S. District Judge Robert R. Summerhays in Lafayette.
