Victim dies from a fatal shooting in Eunice

U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) concluded his first week of Rural Community Funding Summits in Louisiana, visiting Ruston, Winnsboro and Opelousas on Wednesday. Local officials throughout North Louisiana and Acadiana met with representatives of federal and state agencies to discuss how they can access funds from Cassidy’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), according to a news release.

Phillip DeVillier, right, presented an expression of condolences to the family of former Eunice Police Chief Gary “Goose” Fontenot to the chief’s son, Mayor Scott Fontenot, left, during VFW State Commander Don Reber’s State Commander Homecoming on April 1. The statement gave history of the former chief’s service that included service in the Army during the Vietnam War at the age of 17. The chief was elected to three terms.
