Jail costs are daunting

Housing prisoners is an ongoing cost to St. Landry Parish Government that is eroding finances, said Parish President Jessie Bellard in talking to Eunice Rotarians. “Those inmates are costing us roughly $2 million a year,” he said at the Wednesday meeting.

The hurricane season opened with a surprise. For the time since 1997, there were no named storms in August. Hurricane forecaster with Colorado State University tweeted, “Since 1950, two Augusts have had no Atlantic named storm formations: 1961 and 1997.
